The feet in a line are distinguished as a recurring pattern of two or three syllables ("apple" has 2 syllables, "banana" has 3 syllables, etc.). It helps to think of poetic form as a girdle into which you pour the meaning; the girdle adds beauty, and the meaning must be arranged in such a way that it fits into the girdle. Small caps in the first few words of a chapter or section have been replaced with lower-case letters.
