Our group studies and manipulates how electrons organize themselves and flow on the nanoscale. The II-VI and III-V chambers are inter-connected by an ultrahigh vacuum channel which allows transfer of wafers from the III-V to the II-VI chamber -- and vice-versa -- without exposure to the atmosphere. Scientists at GE are working to harness this property to make hypersensitive thermal imaging sensors, useful for night vision. SJR is a prestige metric based on the idea that not all citations are the same. Our team also investigates several mechanisms to further enhance the modulated on-off ratio, for instance resonant-interference based and epsilon-near-zero based enhancement, providing insight towards development of ideal plasmonic modulator/switch for future communication system.

Material will be presented on a level intended for upper-level science and engineering students. Plasma is the most abundant form of normal matter in the Universe (of the forms confirmed to exist; the more abundant dark matter is hypothetical and may or may not be clarified by normal matter), most of which is in the rarefied intergalactic regions, particularly the intracluster medium, and in stars, with the Sun.
